Larper

« Back to Glossary Index

A derogatory term used in online fandoms to accuse someone of being a “fake” or performative fan. Derived from LARP (Live-Action Role-Play), it implies that a person is merely “acting the part” of a dedicated fan to chase trends, gain clout, or make a financial profit, rather than having a genuine interest in the franchise.

Note from TCR:

While the term is popular online, we don’t subscribe to gatekeeping here! All fans are valid. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a casual fan, enjoying only specific parts of a franchise, or learning as you go. You don’t need to know every piece of trivia to be part of the community!
